We are now at the far east of Texas, El Paso. You could see the border between Mexico and USA. According to local, the red mark "X" is Mexico. (It's right at the center between my boys).
One note to keep in mind, if you're traveling near the border (eg. I-10), be sure to bring your paperwork if you are not a US citizen. There are customs and border patrol that will ask for your documentations.
We take a break at Fort Stockton which is about half way for our 8 hours drive to San Antonio from El Paso. There is not much in the town but there is an iconic road runner at a corner of a street junction.
There are few towns with limited number of restaurants on the way to San Antonio. We had our lunch at this home cooked BBQ restaurant, Wagon Wheel BBQ. Delicious.
San Antonio, Texas
We wanted to go back home to check on our house, but knew it was not a good time just yet as many places were still flooded. Many roads were inaccessible and it would be wise if we stay away for just few more days. It feels good to be closer to home after nearly a week of unplanned vacation. As we have posted previously, San Antonio offers Harvey evacuees some great fun activities and we can't thank them enough for giving hands during this hardship. The kids had such a blast time at San Antonio.
San Antonio Aquarium
The aquarium is a little outdated, but it has hand full of animals interactions and play areas for the kids. It gives kiddos fun activities throughout the floor. Not to mention, adult as well. Daddy were impressed by how many interactive experiences you can get in this place.
Feeding fish and snorkeling with stingray.
Building blocks. Gege looks pretty satisfied with his self-construct fortress.
Up close feeding Iguanas. Imagine yourself surrounded by many of them.
Feeding birds. This is our first time surrounded by so many parakeets. There are a couple on daddy's head. Thumbs up to the kids for trying it out. You wonder where is mommy at.
There are many other stuff like dinosaurs exhibition (albeit small one), I-Guana jump bound play area, play pretend shopping, rides ponies, touch and feed octopus and many more.
San Antonio Zoo
San Antonio has a nice size zoo with a good variety of animals. Although, it doesn't keep my kids interest long, but this is because they prefer hands on fun at this stage of their life.
The Doseum
This is the San Antonio Children's museum. As many times as we have visited San Antonio, I can't believe we have yet to visit the Doseum! This museum is awesome with plenty to keep little minds wonder.
Laser Legend
It has been ages since we last played laser tag. Gege and didi have never done it before, so we thought it may be good to give it a try. Gege is tall enough to wear the body suit and strong enough to hold the laser gun, aim and shoot. Daddy had a lot of fun with gege while didi and mommy play in partner mode.
Witte Museum
San Antonio's Natural Science & Historic Museum.
This place is grand and spectacular! The moment we walked in, we can feel it is very nice, and huge. We were welcomed by two dinosaurs, can you spot them?
Some of the exhibition is very beautiful!
There is a HEB body adventure at the back of the museum. It is kind of a hidden gems. There are some fun activities for kids,
and maybe adults too.
Gege first time rock climbing with a safety strap on. He was able to reach about 6 feet high. Pretty good. He did tried twice which indicates he had fun and wanted to reach higher.
We really appreciate that these organizations open their hand to welcome us during time of hardship. It meant more than anything and we are greatly thankful. Thank you San Antonio, TX!
