The happiest place on earth, the Walt Disney World, where dreams come true. The trip was originally planned for March, but with circumstances circumventing our plan, it got pushed to May. We were lucky to have 2 days of cooler weather on the month of May in Orlando.
A little story behind this whole Disney trip. We wanted to go during off-peak season, meaning when everyone else is still in school. And the only chance we have is before our eldest child starts school, that's when we will fall under the truancy law.
Another obvious reason of going during off-peak season is to avoid the crowd. Our experience at Legoland trip during the holiday seasons last year amplifies our desire to avoid the crowd as much as possible. It is no fun at all especially with small kids waiting in line for an hour to get on a 5-10 minutes ride. We know the crowd level at Disney would be much worse.
There are some great information on Undercover Tourist to plan your Disney trip. Here is a snippet (click image for better view) of the crowd level for the first two weeks of May 2017. Our aim is to visit when the average crowd is at level 6 and under whenever possible.
We all know Disney is expensive so anything free is definitely eye opening. Kids 2 and under is free, okay now, free is good isn't it? I have a 2 year old who adores Mickey so this is the perfect time to go to the Disney world. A lot of parents think 2 and 4 years old are too young to remember their experience at Disney so they want to wait til the kids are a little older; I think the opposite. So, exactly when is a good age? It all depends on what type of experience you're looking for. To me, my boys are at the best age of their childhood, especially the 2 year old. The expression you see from his face when he meets his favorite characters is simply priceless. My four year old, on the other hand, did not show too much expression. He is at the stage where rides are more excited than meeting characters and he is only four. For that, if you have a chance, go. When in doubt, make an effort to go again when the kids are older. Babies grow so fast and our busy lives may hinder the chance we take trips as a family. Go whenever possible and enjoy while they are still young.
Disney fever starts at Orlando airport.
Our Disney trip was 5 days 5 nights long. It is one of the most exhausting fun filled trip. We spent one day at each park and no way in our tight schedule for park hopping. I have no idea how could one possibly park hop with small children. So, why pay extra for park hoppers ticket when you won't benefit much from it?
We stayed at one of the closest off site hotel at Lake Buena Vista Delta hotel by Marriott. The hotel offers scheduled run shuttle few times a day with 7:45 A.M. being the earliest. Most Disney's parks open at 9:00 A.M, so in order to enjoy most of the attractions, it is recommended to arrive at the park early. Our days at Disney ends at 9:00 P.M and for 4 consecutive nights, the schedule was the same. More like an over-time job for 4 nights straight, but with a lot of great memories.
By the way, do you see our bags? For the first time ever, we did not have to checked in our bags. Mommy managed to fit in 5 days worth of clothes in a carry-on size luggage for family of four! The green little bag was filled with snacks for the entire trip. Besides those two bags, we also carried a back pack (for toiletries), 2 strollers (using our creativity to stack them both into one), and a booster car seat. Woohoo!!! Finally achieved minimalist travel packing and is for Disney! Got to give mommy a pat on the back.
