Whenever we have a chance, we fly to Malaysia and visit Taiping. Taiping is a beautiful peaceful small town rich in history. While we spend a lot of times with the family, we want to eat all delicious food here and explore the town with kid activities. Here are list of the restaurants and places we have been in Taiping.
Larut Matang Hawker Center
This hawker center has been there for ages. There are many food stands with variety of food to order. We usually wonton noodles, chicken rices, char kuay teow with fish ball, kuih (bakery), si kuih teng (four fruit soup..), ice kacang (shave ice) and many more.
Kedai Kopi Kok Beng
This place serves some pretty delicious bbq pork and chicken rice combo.
MJ Cuisine
This restaurant is one of the unique one in the town which serves western food like pork / chicken chop, mushroom soup and etc.
Nasi Kandar Beratur 786
We found this Indian restaurant to satisfy our Indian food craving.
Dragon Phoenix (Long Fung) Restaurant
There are many restaurant where you can sit in and order food or for to go (take out). This is one of them that we like with reasonable price and crowd.
Restoran Lung Kee Bak Kut Teh
This place serves the traditional soup bat kut teh as well as dry bat kut teh
Bismillah Cendol
This place has been here for ages and famous for the cendol.
Anba Coconut Trading Sdn Bhd
We like to get our fresh coconut juice here. They so far have the best coconut juice among all the ones we tried (including the one in Hawaii). The price is reasonable.
Prima Restaurant (Bai Ling)
This restaurant has different food stands for day and night. At night, there is this Jason Satay stand at the corner. The kids like their satay.
Kedai Kopi Pak Loke
This is one of the small hawker store we like to visit. They have roti canai, char kuay kak, wonton noodle, lo mai kai and etc. Do we like the food? See it yourself.
A few shops down, there is a old grocery store that sell crackers and we found our childhood crackers and snacks.
Kedai Kopi Kong Meng
This store has been here for ages. They are famous for their steam BBQ bun (char siu bao) and dim sum. It is mainly for to go (take out). The store open early in the morning and from late afternoon to night.
Bismillah Restaurant
They have been here for ages. They sell roti canai, roti tissue, roti pisang, roti planta, roti... you get it.
Restoran Air Kacang Taiping
They sell soy milk and popiah
Pokok Assam Market Food Court
The food court has many food stand that sell wonton noodle, nasi lemak, wat tan ho, mee rebus, and many more. The nasi lemak from a Malay stand is cheap and authentic.
Restoran Kampung Wang
Some of us like their wat tan ho.
Lai Yun Dim Sum
A newer restaurant that have sit in dim sum.
Uncle Don's
This is a relative new restaurant and popular for their clay pot dishes.
Bee Lun Restaurant
Craving for yong tau fu (stuffed tofu)? This is the place where you can pick your favorites and enjoy.
Kedai Makanan OK
They sell porridge and pork noodle soup
Restoran Kakak
We like to come to this restaurant for their lao shu fen. Don't forget the hot chili sauce!
Restoran Yes
This is another restaurant where you can sit in and order food or for to go (take out). The food in their restaurant is pretty good with reasonable price.
Pusat Penjaja Taiping
There is a food store sell fish porridge at this hawker center. We remembered when we were young, we get fish porridge to go when we were sick or don't have much appetite.
Taiping Dessert Licious Corner
There are quick a few of new dessert store popping up lately.
DoubleTap Cafe
There are quick a few of new dessert store popping up lately.
Restoran De Coffee Shop
There are multiple food stand in this coffee shop. One of the main one sell nasic lemak campur where you pick your own veges / meats dishes.
The Ipoh Bakery
This bakery store has been here for ages. They sell bread and bakery. Amazingly there are still someone going around neighborhood selling bakery on their bike (that was how we bought our bread from when we were children). The person was loading the breads gotten from the bakery onto his bike.
Biskut Tupai Emas
If you want to buy some souvenir of local cookie, this place has some fresh ones.
Plaza Perbandaran Food Court
In the day market, one of the store sell ah pong and we been eating that from young age.
Leong Seng Co
If you are looking for dry anchovies and dry salty shrimp to add to your cooking recipe, this is the place to go
Yong Sheng Tang Enterprise
We like to buy the Sarawak ground white pepper here.
Things to do
Here are some of the activities you could do in Taiping.
Taiping Lake Garden
Taiping Lake Garden (Taman Tasik) is popular for the tourist as well as for the locals. It has multiple playgrounds and people like to bike, jogs, exercise in this big beautiful lake garden. We come here every time we visit Taiping.
Taiping Zoo and Night Safari
We visited the Taiping Zoo many years ago when the kids were still very young. Young kids love animals and the zoo also have a buggy ride. We haven't been to the night safari. We could imagine that would be an unique experience.
Bukit Larut (Maxwell Hill)
If the weather is too hot, the top of the hill would be a nice place to be. It is about 6km hike to the top (if daddy remember correctly). There is also jeep that can take you up/down if you want to skip the hiking. There is also accommodation at the top of the hill.
Aeon Mall
This mall is the largest and most modern mall in Taiping. The top floor has arcade, indoor kids playground (need to pay), game activities and many stores.
Taiping Mall
The mall is conveniently located at the city center. We were told the movie theater seat is comfortable, less crowded and price is reasonable. We watched Avatar 2 here.
Perak Museum
There is an old aircraft outside the museum. Within, it shows the Perak state history as well as common animal and environment in Perak.
Spritzer EcoPark
We visited this park many years ago when the kids were very young. It has playground, mini golf and garden. We have heard the park has changed quite a bit since then and have more things to do.
Antong Coffee Factory
We visited this place few years ago. It showed the factory history, coffee making process as well as some coffee tasting.
The list above seems to be the same similar places we go everytime we visit Taiping. Next time, we plan to visit other new restaurants and explore more activities to do.
