Spontaneous Kemah Broadwalk Trip

Sunday morning. Called up a friend last minutes for lunch, and was asked if we wanted to join them for their planned Kemah Broadwalk trip in the afternoon. Sure.

The boys went to Kemah a few weeks ago before the cold front hit. They had a lot of fun especially at the side walk feeding birds. I bet they remembered that.

After lunch at Asia Market Thai Lao Food restaurant (food is pretty good), we hit the road. The estimated duration was around 45 minutes. We intentionally drove a little slower since the plan was to let the kids slept hopefully for at least an hour on the way there, which both of them did. Perfect.

One lesson learned from past experience. For better planning, I always bring up Google map right before my drive to any where to identify the overall route, distance, time, accidents, and sometimes alternative route. The wealth of present data equipped by the software along with machine learning and algorithm often allow it to make a better choice. And we should leverage that whenever possible.

Back to the trip. After the kids woke up, we joined our friends for carousel ride at Kemah broadwalk. At first, I was not sure if didi would finished the whole ride. He has previously asked us nicely to get him off the horse right after a round or two. Since I knew gege who sit next to him would sometimes chicken out too and wanted us to hold him for some sense of security, I thought and created a funny 'race' scenario right when the carousel started moving. That appears to makes gege excited and started laughing. Instead of anticipating for that up-and-down motion, he focused on the 'race' and actually wanted it to move faster! Then I turned around and did the same trick to didi and showed him how funny gege was. He hesitated for couple of seconds but soon to my amazement that this works for both of them. They both hung on to their horses chuckling and waving the whole time. Didi ended up reluctant to leave the carousel when finished. Mission accomplished.

Then we headed out to Ferris wheel. Our buddy in lucky 7 and our shot.

Little story here. Our friend boarded before us but got off after us. What? That's right, we didn't even finished one round and was asked to get off. We were completely puzzled when the staff told us that's how it works. Fortunately, the manager was near by and told us they messed up big time and let us ride again.

Now we got to at least enjoy the nice view and a few rounds as expected, at least from my childhood experience!

Guess what is the next destination? That's right, the seagull feeding area! The kids could not wait!

My buddy: I know that look delicious but you better don't put that in your mouth.

Yeah, easily few dollars into seagull food.

With the 'main' attraction checked off, we walked along at the Kemah sidewalk to the other side. It was nice weather. Although a little chilly, but overall is pretty nice. Our friends family shot.
