We decided to explore further West to Glen Rose, TX to visit the Dinosaur Valley State Park and the Dinosaur World Museum. Given the long distance drive, we decided to stop a night at Waco, TX before heading West to Glen Rose. For most of you who is a fan of the TV series Fixer Upper, you have probably heard of the Magnolia Market Silos, located in Waco.
We thought it was a vendor market but it was more of a retail home goods with an open area great for family hangout and about.
Yup, those are fake flowers. The decor and environment are very nice, especially during spring when the weather is nice.
Waco Mammoth Museum
We visited few years back and it has not changed. Check out our previous post. It costs about $5/adult and $3/child with tour inside the museum and you are not allow inside the facility without a tour pass. This time around, the tour guide did a better job explaining. We actually paid close attention and learned something from the tour (imagine that with small kid).
Glen Rose, Texas
After so many miles of driving, we finally reached our destination. Before heading into the Dinosaur Valley State Park is the Dinosaur World Museum. The museum is a chain theme parks, located in Texas, Kentucky, and Florida with life-size dinosaur sculptures. I would say it is a neat experience for young dinosaur lover. Sculptures are along the walking trail and our boys were so amazed to see those big dinosaurs.
So many life size dinosaurs. It is pretty impressive the way they design and the layout of the sculptures.
These are not T-Rex. But it reminds daddy of Barney, just paint them pink :). Ok, more dinosaur pictures..
Look out what's behind you!
With the admission pass, little ones get to participate in the fossil dig, where they get to select 3 keepsakes. There is a boneyard (sand play) and a good size playground inside the park. Do not forget to stop by the museum as the dinosaur displays are motion activated with sound. From Didi's expression, he probably thought it was real life dinosaurs. His expression was priceless. Ticket is $12.75/adult and $9.75/child and we found $2 off ticket online. Always worth a try to google for coupons. I definitely recommend this place if you have dinosaur lover.
There is also a younger and bigger kid playground.
After the museum, we drove to the Dinosaur Valley State Park, hoping to explore dinosaur footprints. It was believed to be where Dinosaurs had roamed and left footprints. Unfortunately, the footprint tracks were under water and not visible during our visit, what a bummer after such a long drive. Maybe, it was meant for us to visit once again in the future?
We did however got to sit in one of the footprints that was located near the entrance with some beautiful bluebonnets.
What's for Grub in Waco?
This is it. Cambodian cuisine inside this food truck called, The Blasian Asian. Give it a try. The fried rice and chicken skewer was pretty good.
